The urban communities project was an interdisciplinary team project across product and interaction design as well as environmental architecture. The briefing was to propose a redevelopment for a public site in the Lavapies neighbourhood in Madrid (Spain), taking into account the locals needs and uses of the shared space.
The key insights came from a culture probe conducted in the neighbourhood and a series of street interviews with local residents.
The final concept makes efficient use of the space available to increase the heavily-used sports facilities, offer dog walking space without alienating non-dog owners and provide a meeting place to share stories and stay informed about local events.
